Australia Confirms M142 HIMARS Procurement

Australia is taking action to enhance its land-based long-range precision strike capability. Australian Ministry of Defence confirmed that the country would acquire the M142 HIMARS solution.


Australian Defence Force will be equipped with 20 High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS). Platforms are expected to be in inventory by 2026-2027. Ministry of Defence is aiming to increase the strike and defence capability of their armed forces. The deal consists of launchers, rockets and training rounds.

The increasing China threat is pushing the countries in the region to more investment in the military. Australia has announced Naval Strike Missile procurement for Royal Australian Navy as well. An Australian state is replacing ageing weapons with new and modern ones, as well as gaining new capabilities. The cost of the two deals is worth more than USD 684 million.
