The Indian Air Force
(IAF) said the tests were carried out over the Bay of Bengal using Su-30MKI
fighter jets. The BrahMos missile managed to destroy the target ship at a
distance of 450 km.
IAF said, "The increased missile range, combined with the superior performance of the Su-30MKI, gives the Air Force a strategic advantage."

The BrahMos missile,
with a weight of 2.5 tons, was launched from the Su-30MKI aircraft. This
missile can carry conventional and nuclear warheads weighing 200-300 kg. Apart
from being launched from the aircraft, the BrahMos missile has also been
developed in a ship-launched version and a ground-launched version. The range
of coverage differs depending on the launch platform used.
BrahMos can hit
targets up to 500 km from ship launches and land. The BrahMos missile is
powered by a solid-fuel rocket (first stage of launch) and a liquid-fuel ramjet
engine (second stage of launch). India and Russia jointly developed this
missile.
