Is Turkey selling MILGEM Ada and FAC to Morocco?
Turkey and Morocco in Kılıç and Ada Negotiations

There is a claim in international media that Turkey might sell some naval platforms to Morocco. According to maroc-hebdo, Morocco is negotiating with Turkey to acquire seven Kılıç II Class Fast Attack Crafts (FAC) and one Ada Class corvette for Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW). The claim, however, seems to have no roots.

The Kılıç II FACs are built in Turkey at Gölcük Naval Shipyard. Ada Class Corvettes are built at various shipyards in Turkey and Pakistan. Istanbul Shipyard is the primary construction facility for the Turkish and Pakistan Navy, and RMK Marine builds the vessel for Ukraine. The PN Milgem project for the Pakistan navy continues at Istanbul Shipyard and Karachi Shipyard in Pakistan. Gölcük and Istanbul Shipyards are managed by the Ministry of Defence company ASFAT A.Ş. ASFAT A.Ş. exports PN Milgem to Pakistan while STM Defence exports the same vessels to Ukraine. Kılıç is defined as a corvette by Lürssen Werft, the German designer of the vessel. It is one of the FAC/ missile boat classes of the Turkish Navy.

The publication makes its claims quoting “Tactical Report”. According to the publication, the FAC vessels will have a total cost of 222 million dirhams. The claim originates from a Lebanon-based portal revealing that the two parties have started talks since October 2021 and that the first deliveries are scheduled for the second half of 2022.

The publication also confirms the information from the FAR-Morocco Forum stating that this Facebook page regularly publishes information on the military acquisitions of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR). According to the platform, the Royal Navy, which already owns four Lazaga-class rapid attack ships, "whose technology is outdated and increasingly expensive to maintain", is considering replacing them with these Turkish ships.

On the other hand, sources speaking to TurDef under anonymity stated that there is no ongoing negotiation between Turkey and Morocco over Ada Corvette. The Kılıç Class Fast Attack Craft (FAC) cannot be sold to Morocco as they are built under the licence of the German Lürssen Werft Shipyard.
