The main battle tank concept is changing in line with modern battlefield requirements. Turkiye is aiming to evolve Altay for the future. The tank will have an unmanned or optionally manned turret with an auto-loader. Different types and calibre main guns can be integrated into the vehicle. There are concerns to reduce the weight and to increase the mobility factor. The three-man crew is positioned in the armoured capsule at the front section of the hull, like the Abrams X concept and T-14 Armata. Unmanned aerial system cooperation capability is aimed to be improved as well. The number of remote-controlled weapon systems will be increased to two, and the tank will become suitable to use with virtual reality-augmented reality goggles.
With the T3 variant, Altay will be capable of fulfilling
modern combat requirements with enhanced situational awareness, better
firepower, mobility and survivability, like new western tank concepts.
Conventional tanks are designed for combat with tanks which
means superior armour protection in the front and less protection on the top.
Urban warfare requires efficient armour protection in every sense, including
top. Altay will be eligible for urban warfare too.
