Northrop Grumman has secured a $3,286,745,005 contract from the United States Missile Defence Agency (MDA). The company was asked to build a Ground-based Midcourse Defence (GMD) Weapon System (GWS) program. This program will protect the United States from intermediate and intercontinental ballistic missile attacks.

Under this contract, Northrop Grumman will provide the new capabilities' design, development, verification, deployment, and maintenance support. The company said in a release that the GWS is part of Northrop Grumman's land and sea missile defence system activated by advanced missile warning and space tracking satellites. The GWS program builds on decades of proven innovation, experience and end-to-end missile defence capabilities.
