Former Iron Curtain NATO members are refreshing their arsenal with western solutions. Romania is becoming the new user of Naval Strike Missile (NSM).


The United States Department of Defence announced an NSM deal for Romania. Raytheon Technologies will procure Naval Strike Missile for Romanian Armed Forces in line with USD 208.7 million the U.S. Navy contract. The agreement also consists of options, and the volume of the deal will increase to USD 217.1 million if they are exercised. 60% workload of the contract will be carried out in Kongsberg, Norway. The expected completion of the deal is announced as September 2028.
NSM Goes to Romania
Missiles are planned to use as a land-based coastal defence system. Royal Navy and Royal Australian Navy, as well as the Netherlands, also selected the missile system. Platforms are expected to enhance Romanian maritime defence capabilities as well as increase deterrence in its region.
