The Presidency of Defence Industries began the tender process by releasing the Request for Proposal (RFP) for the 6th, 7th, and 8th MİLGEM Ships Projects. The call is part of the MİLGEM project's I-class frigates. Professor İsmail Demir, President of the Defence Industry, made the announcement. The project will produce naval platforms for the Naval Forces Command to perform reconnaissance and surveillance, target detection, identification and recognition, early warning missions, base and port defence, anti-submarine warfare, surface warfare, air defence warfare, amphibious operations, and patrol activities.

The Turkish navy will receive a new MİLGEMs with the greatest possible participation from the domestic industry. Except for the systems that require development, upgrading, nationalisation, and localisation, the ships will be comparable to MİLGEM's 5th ship.

The project's goal is to improve the essential expertise, experience, and infrastructure in warship construction in private sector shipyards charged with developing and maintaining the domestic defence industry.

Bidders must have a domestic shipyard or work with a domestic shipyard as a design subcontractor. It will also be essential for the tender to have conducted/executed a military surface platform design/construction project with the Presidency or formed businesses that meet this need.

TurDef has previously stated a high expectancy for the MILGEM I class to be included in the last (October dated) Defence Industry Executive Committee (SSIK). TurDef had also underlined that the decision could be either only for one ship (6th) or three ships together (6th, 7th, 8th ).
