The United States Marine Corps is increasing activities in Guam. Corps reactivated Base Camp Blaz with a ceremony.
The U.S. is increasing preparations for a possible war in Indo-China in the future. In this line, the USMC Base Camp Blaz at Guam was reactivated on January 26. The force aims to establish a forward presence in the region for fast deployment and creating jumping infrastructure to the other areas. Guam was chosen as a new base in 2012 in the Bilateral Agreement between the U.S. and Japan.
The United States decided on this step in the 2012 Defence Policy Review Initiative agreement. Marines based in Okinawa are moved to the location. According to the U.S. Government, this realignment aims to secure a geographically distributed, operationally resilient and politically sustainable posture.
Washington has been preparing for a possible war in the Far East for a while. In this line, some radical changes have been recently announced in the amphibious operation concept. This context contains reorganisation of the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC) structure, considering the island-hopping operations, and abolishing of the M1 Abrams main battle tank units to enhance mobility and flexibility. After the transformation, the force switched to a faster and more agile organisation. It is also known that all these steps were taken to increase amphibious operations and area denial capability in the Far East when necessary due to the increasing China threat.
