A Turkish Defence Industry delegation led by the Presidency of Defence Industries (SSB) visits African countries. The latest visit was to Nigeria. President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s visit to Africa in autumn and the summit held in December have sparked new relations for the cooperation between Turkey and the African countries.

The Turkish defence industry delegation held meetings in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria. This was the 5th Turkey-Nigeria Defence Industry Consultation Meeting with the attendance of TUSAŞ, OTOKAR, Roketsan, BMC, Tais Shipyard, Katmerciler and ASELSAN. The Turkish delegation held a meeting with Nigerian Defence Minister Bashir Salihi Magashi and senior army commanders.

According to Mallam Garba Shehu, an Advisor to Nigerian President Mohammed Buhari, “military purchases” and “equipment production” issues would be discussed with the Turkish delegation. According to Shehu, Nigeria’s possible purchases include assault rifles, anti-material rifles, counter-terrorism equipment, armoured vehicles, UAVs and vehicles. The Turkish delegation was also expected to meet with the Nigerian national defence company Defence Industries Corporation of Nigeria (DICON). Developments on the subject emerged with the sharing of the Nigerian Embassy of Turkey in Abuja.

According to the information obtained by TurDef, the delegation also made a series of contacts with Kenya within the framework of the same visiting tour. The SSB had previously made a similar visit to Uganda with a similar delegation.
