“PNS TASNIM”, Pakistan begins work on 5th HANGOR -Class Submarine

The HANGOR Class Submarine has enhanced stealth characteristics to operate in a multi-threat environment. Sensors are combined with a Command & Control system that simultaneously monitors and engages several targets at standoff ranges.

When completed, the submarine will be named PNS TASNIM in honour of the ex-PNS HANGOR crew headed by (retired) Vice Admiral Ahmad Tasnim. On the occasion of the steel cutting ceremony, the Chief of Naval Staff extended appreciation to all those participating in the building operations and described the occasion as another example of Pakistan-China relations growing.

TheHANGOR-class submarines are an export variant of China’s Yuan-class Type-041, diesel-electric submarines. The submarines are 76 meters long, with a draught of 6.2 meters. Under the agreement signed with China, out of eight, four submarines will be made at Karachi Shipyard.
