ASELSAN Delivers the First Modernised M60T MBT to TAF

M60T Sabra tanks have been provided with TEPES mast-mounted periscope, PULAT APS and SARP RCWS to increase survivability in urban combat scenarios.
TEPES has the advantage of being mast-mounted, allowing the tank to remain hidden behind cover while the commander can observe the field. The electro-optical suite incorporates day and thermal cameras and a laser rangefinder with a range of 20 km.
PULAT active protection system consists of explosive charges sending fragments to destroy incoming projectiles on fixed mounts. The explosive charges distributed around the vehicle are connected to a fire control system supported by radars around the vehicle. ASELSAN has also developed the turret-based AKKOR, especially against modern top-attack ATGMs for ALTAY MBT and new armoured fighting vehicles.
The addition of long-serving SARP RCWS will provide defence against infantry and lightly armoured vehicles thanks to a 12.7 mm heavy machine gun, as well as a second surveillance capability with onboard optical systems.
The upgrade can be observed to be oriented against asymmetric threats often encountered in Syria and Iraq. M60T MBTs are one of the most actively used tanks of the Turkish Land Forces during the operations against terrorist organisations.
TİYK is a significant tank modernisation programme aiming to modernise the existing main battle tanks with new systems from the Turkish defence industry. Thus, Leopard 2A4 MBTs of the Turkish Land Forces will also be upgraded within the scope of the TİYK programme.
