Aside F-16, Turkiye is still Interested in Eurofighter

Turkıye is still interested in buying 40 Eurofighter Typhoon jets, a Turkish Defence Ministry official said on Thursday. In November, Turkiye said his country was in talks with Britain to buy the Typhoon, although Germany opposed the idea.
Last week, U.S. President Joe Biden’s administration officially notified Congress of its intention to resume the sale of 40 new Lockheed Martin F-16 Viper Block 70 fighter jets and 79 F-16 modernisation kits to Turkıye, a day after Ankara ratified Sweden’s membership in NATO.

Furthermore, a State Department official, Acting Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, said in an interview that Turkiye could be an F-35 customer again once the S-400 problem is resolved. Turkish and U.S. officials did not develop this statement; however, such a statement indicates such a possibility.
Although the U.S. Congress is unlikely to block the F-16 sale, Turkıye still wants to buy Eurofighter Typhoon jets, said a Turkish Defence Ministry official who did not want to be named. “We are still interested; we hope for a positive approach from Germany, a member of the consortium, on this issue,” the official was quoted as saying by Reuters.
The Eurofighter Typhoon jet was built by a consortium formed by Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy and Spain, represented by Airbus, BAE Systems and Leonardo.
