Australia Sets Multifunctional Information Distribution System

The State Department has decided to approve a possible Foreign Military Sale to the Australia of Defence Articles Related to Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio Systems and related equipment for $42 million. Today, the Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale.

Australia has requested to buy 106 Multifunctional Information Distribution System Joint Tactical Radio System (MIDS JTRS) (5) terminals; 15 MIDS JTRS, six terminals; and seven Multifunctional Information Distribution System MIDS-Low Volume Terminal (MIDS-LVT). The estimated total value is $42 million.The acquisition will improve Australia’s capability to interoperate with U.S. forces and exchange secure, jam-resistant tactical data via Link 16.US Company Viasat, and Data Link Solutions (A joint venture between BAE Systems and Collins Aerospace), will be the principal contractors.
