BAE Systems has announced a deal worth $754 million with the U.S. Army for AMPV armoured vehicles. The second phase of full-rate production is between March 2026 and February 2027. Previously, a contract worth $432.5 million was signed for the production. The total amount may reach $1.6 billion with the following contract(s). Additionally, new investments were made to expand the AMPV production line in York, Pennsylvania, last year. The AMPV line recently installed an additional robotic weld capability to enhance the assembly phase. AMPV family of armoured vehicles will replace the ageing M113 tracked armoured vehicles in the U.S. Army service. A contract was signed for the full-rate production of five configurations (General Purpose, Mission Command, MEDEVAC, Mortar Carrier, and Medical Treatment) 2023. The vehicle has common parts with the Bradley series of IFVs and M109 Paladin SPGs, making the transition to a new vehicle smoother with a degree of commonality. Despite the contract to deliver five configurations, works are ongoing for extras. For example, a prototype with Moog’s RIwP modular turret and RPS-42 AESA radars was tested as a potential C-UAS platform. This prototype has an XM914 30x113 mm chain gun and FIM-92 Stinger low-altitude air defence missiles.
