Bangladesh will purchase five naval ships from the United Kingdom to modernise the navy and monitor the maritime zone better. The United Kingdom offers aircraft as well.
"We have decided in principle to acquire five navy ships," Bangladesh Minister of Foreign Affairs AK Abdul Moment stated. The goal of this acquisition is to monitor and safeguard our vast marine borders from those who enter our areas for fishing or other reasons."
On the side-lines of COP26 in Glasgow on Wednesday, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina met with her UK counterpart Boris Johnson to address the problem.
According to Momen, the British prime minister considered selling other defence assets, including aeroplanes.
"The talks dragged on for a long time." This time, we reached an agreement in principle to purchase five navy ships. Three of them will be imported from the United Kingdom, while the other two will be built in our Chattogram dockyard."
The minister stated that the final contract for the procurement has yet to be finalised. "Our Ministry of Defence will look at it." We will undoubtedly purchase the ships at a competitive price."
The news comes at a time when the Indo-Pacific area is gaining international interest.
