Berkin Renewed TPAO Oruç Reis Vessel’s “Brain”

Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) vessel Oruç Reis carries out studies to meet Turkiye’s energy needs, and she has been withdrawn from searches due to modernisation works.

Berkin Engineering Chief Technological Officer Burak Akça provided information on the subject: “Due to the inadequacy and topological deficiencies of the existing systems, full redundancy could not be provided. Without changing the existing cables and connected subsystems, we have developed a real-time system specific to the Oruç Reis ship, with full backup and reliability, using Berkin Engineering’s patented, malfunction-free technologies. We did this with a complete “Plug and Play” logic without changing the volume, cables and subsystems. In this way, we were able to minimise non-recurring costs. We want to thank all TPAO officials and employees for their faith and support in our company, which is a local and national technology company.”

TPAO Oruç Reis was first owned by the General Directorate of Mineral Research and Exploration (MTA). She is built to conduct subsea geophysical exploration in shallow waters.

In addition, the ship has equipment for using high-resolution shallow seismic, marine gravity and marine magnetic methods.

The ship was part of the tension between Turkiye and Greece. On August 13, 2020, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan announced that any attack on Oruç Reis would incur a “high price”. His warnings came after unconfirmed reports that the Hellenic Navy frigate Limnos collided with a Turkish Navy ship escorting Oruç Reis.
