US President Joe Biden, who visited Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, Canada, on March 24, 2023, introduced the Defence Production Act on Monday to spend $50 million on domestic and Canadian printed circuit board production, citing the technology’s importance to national defence.

Biden wrote on his Twitter account, “Manufacturers right here in North Carolina are making the chips, batteries, and vehicles fueled by our Invest in America Agenda. So instead of relying on materials made overseas in places like China, the supply chain will be here in America.”

Printed circuit boards are used in missiles and radars, as well as in energy and healthcare electronics. Last year, industry groups urged Washington to take such action, claiming that there was insufficient domestic production to support the US electronics manufacturing industry. The ruling also calls for more “advanced packaging,” which allows multiple devices to be packaged and mounted on a single electronic device, shrinking it and making power use more efficient.
