Brazil Receives Humaitá into Service

Brazilian Navy announced on its Facebook page that a ceremony will be held on January 12. This particular submarine began to be built in September 2013 and launched in December 2020. The first submarine of the class (S-40 "Riachuelo" entered service in September 2020. The other two submarines ("Tonelero" and "Angostura")  are expected to be delivered in 2025 and 2026 respectively. The Brazilian Scorpene is an elongated version of the French submarine. The "Riachuelo" class submarines have a displacement of 1,900 tons, a length of 70.62 meters, a width of 6.2 meters and a draft of 5.8 meters.

They incorporate four MTU diesel engines 12V 396 SE84, with a maximum power of 3,909 hp each and achieve a maximum speed of 21. With a sailing speed of 8 knots, its range is 6,000 nautical miles. Submarines can dive to a depth of 400 meters while requiring 32 crew members. They incorporate six 533mm torpedo tubes, which can launch F21 torpedoes and SM-39 anti-ship missile Exocet or MANSUP.
