According to the local media, Brazil selected Centauro II 8x8 fire support vehicles. The system will be the next wheeled dedicated platform for the Brazilian Armed Forces.
General Dynamics Land Systems of Canada LAV 700 finished the tender in the second line after the Italian Centauro II solution. NORINCO STI-BR was in third place. Brazil is planning to acquire at least 98 Centauro II and has more than 100 vehicles as an option. Vehicles will introduce 120mm ammunition to the Brazilian Army, digital fire control systems, integrated communications for the C2 combat, and passive and active defences, all digitized and integrated with a modern and functional battlefield management system.Brazil has Guaraní, which shares an important portion of joint parts and infrastructure with Centauro. Guarani is the local name of Iveco design VBTP-MR vehicles. This can be considered to be effective in new system selection as well. The fact that the systems are dedicated solutions is also considered to be an essential factor.
