Germany and Norway signed contracts with ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems to acquire six identical Type 212CD submarines. German Navy will acquire two and the Norwegian Navy will acquire four submarines. The contact worth approx €5,5 billion Euro. In March 2021, Norway had completed the agreement with the ThyssenKrupp Marine Systems on the contract for four 212NG (Next Generation/Norway-Germany) class submarines and naval missiles.
Norway and Germany had already entered into cooperation in 2017 that goes beyond the construction of six new HDW Type 212CD submarines, as a new generation of the Type 212A.
Construction of the first boat will begin in 2023. The first submarine will be delivered to the Norwegian Navy in 2029. German Navy will receive two vessels in 2032 and 2034.
