Greece to Modernise MEKO 200 Frigates

The Greek Deputy Minister of Defence, Ioannis Kefalogiannis, as a representative of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, said that they plan to modernise the MEKO 200 class frigates. Deputy Minister Kefalogiannis attended the celebration of Saint Nicholas at the event organised by the Hellenic Navy.

Concerning the planning and implementation steps, he pointed out that they proceed on two levels: “Initially at the level of units and also of personnel, so that it operates in the complex, insular environment of the Aegean. Secondly, in the renewal and conclusion of defence cooperation agreements with strong, friendly forces, which bring multiple benefits to the Navy”.
“The objectives,” he said, “that are being achieved through the armament programs are the procurement of state-of-the-art Belharra frigates, ISLAND-type coastal patrol boats, new state-of-the-art heavy-duty torpedoes for submarines and seven new ROMEO-type helicopters. At the same time, the modernisation of the MEKO class frigates is being promoted.”
