Havelsan presents its precautionary solutions for aviation safety at MSPO
Turkish Armed Forces Foundation company Havelsan exhibits its military and civil aviation precaution system. Havelsan’s radar solutions provide early warning against birds and Foreign Object Debris (FOD), creating a major problem for any landing or taking-off aircraft. The KUŞRAD (Birdradar) and FODRAD are designed by the General Directorate of State Airports Authority (DHMI) and TUBITAK-BILGEM. Although radar has been used for large-area tracking of migrating birds for many years, the requirements of small-area bird detection at a scale suitable for airport hazard assessment and management have been relatively recent. HAVELSAN Bird Detection Radar KUŞRAD is designed for 2D and 3D volume surveillance radar to detect and track small airborne targets of all types, including birds, drones and aircraft of all sizes. The system detects and tracks targets 24/7 within a radius of 40 km. It can calculate the safest time zones for scheduled flights to provide safety for the voyagers and airports. The system tracks birds, bird flocks, and aircraft and reports their range, elevation, direction, velocity and route information. Havelsan presents its precautionary solutions for aviation safety at MSPO According to HAVELSAN, 0ver 66 per cent of airport emergencies are related to FOD. FOD is typically detected with manual visual inspections that involve personnel driving at high speeds down the runway. HAVELSAN FODRAD specific millimetre wave radar/software combination can continuously monitor pavement and infrastructure. HAVELSAN FODRAD can determine if there is a pavement crack, change in surface height, or even the movement of an in-pavement light fixture – alerting airport operations before it becomes a hazard. Havelsan presents its precautionary solutions for aviation safety at MSPO The radar system guarantees runway inspection in all weather conditions. It can operate and detect FOD day and night. The system monitors all events from a single operational centre. It displays location information and real-time images of the detected foreign objects and debris on the runways for corrective actions.
