India Delivers Akash Air Defence System to Armenia

According to the Armenian Times, BDL's air defence missile system has a range of 4 to 25 kilometres and can intercept missiles, helicopters, aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles. It was emphasised that the "Akash" air defence missile systems are also in the inventory of Indian armed forces.

Armenia previously purchased "Pinaka" rocket launchers, "Konkurs" anti-tank missile systems manufactured under Russian patent, 80-millimetre howitzers, and various weapons and equipment from India.

In addition, the Indian company Zen Technologies, which manufactures anti-aircraft systems for unmanned aerial vehicles, intends to establish a branch in Armenia.

Bharat Forge, an Indian company, delivered the first batch of six 155-millimeter howitzers in September 2023 as part of Armenia's 90 Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) order.

This shipment was part of Armenia's $155.5 million order for 90 ATAGS units in 2022, with the remaining 84 ATAGS scheduled to be delivered within three years. The company is aiming to complete the delivery ahead of schedule.

The Rajendra 3D passive electronically scanned array radar and four launchers, each with three missiles, are included in each "Akash" battery.

The system can track 64 targets at the same time and engage 12 of them at the same time.
