India Tested Naval Variant of BrahMos

According to the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), the Indian Navy's newly commissioned INS Visakhapatnam successfully tested a sea-to-sea variant of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile on Tuesday. "The missile hit the targeted target ship accurately." the agency stated on Twitter.

The naval variant was initially tested in October and December 2020 by the Navy's indigenously manufactured stealth destroyer INS Chennai and Rajput-class destroyer INS Ranvijay. This missile can attack land and marine targets and be launched vertically or horizontally from moving or stationary assets. The missiles, which fly at 2.8 Mach (almost three times the speed of sound), help the ships engage long-range targets. In 1998, the DRDO and Russian NPO Mashinostroyeniya collaborated to develop the missile.
