Indonesia has been trying to include French Rafale, second-hand Mirage-2000-5, Korean KF-21 Boramea, and Russian Su-35 in the inventory under budget constraints. The Su-35s and second-hand mirages were discarded in the process while the country acquired Rafale aircraft.
The Indonesian defence ministry has announced from social media accounts that it signed an MoU to purchase 24 new F-15EX fighter aircraft at Boeing. The fighters will be coded F-15ID.
The Defence and Security Cooperation Agency’s (DSCA) announcement in February 2022 details aircraft capacity. At that time, DSCA stated that Indonesia wanted to acquire 36 aircraft with an estimated cost of $13.9 billion. Today, the amount of aircraft is reduced by one-third.
That announcement included 87 F110-GE-129 or F100-PW-229 engines; 45 AN/APG-82(v)1 Advanced Electronically Scanned Array (AESA) Radars; 45 AN/ALQ-250 Eagle Passive Active Warning Survivability Systems (EPAWSS); 48 Advanced Display Core Processor (ADCP) II digital computers; 80 Joint Helmet Mounted Cueing Systems (JHMCS); 92 Embedded Global Positioning Systems (GPS)/Inertial Navigation System (EGI) security devices; 40 AN/AAQ-13 LANTIRN navigation pods; 40 AN/AAQ-33 Sniper Advanced Targeting Pods (ATP); 156 LAU-128 launchers; and 40 M61A “Vulcan” gun systems. Most probably, the requested equipment will be reduced by one-third as well.
