Italy Acquires Additional 28 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II+

The U.S. State Department approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Italy of AIM-9X Sidewinder Missiles and related equipment for an estimated cost of $90.6 million. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification, notifying Congress of this possible sale. Italy has requested to buy 28 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II+ Tactical Missiles; four AIM-9X Block II+ Tactical Guidance Units; eight AIM-9X Captive Air Training Missiles (CATM); and two AIM-9X CATM Guidance Units that will be added to previously implemented cases whose values were under the congressional notification threshold. The estimated total cost is $90.6 million. RTX Corporation will be the principal contractor.
