Kuwait to Acquire $3 Billion Worth of NASAMS and MRADS

The US State Department has decided to approve a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Kuwait of the National Advanced Surface-To-Air Missile System (NASAMS), Medium Range Air Defence System (MRADS) and related equipment for an estimated cost of $3 billion. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.

Kuwait has requested to buy the National Advanced Surface-To-Air Missile System (NASAMS), a Medium Range Air Defence System (MRADS) solution comprised of seven AN/MPQ-64FI Sentinel radars. Kuwait 63 AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM); 63 AMRAAM-Extended Range (AMRAAM-ER) missiles; two AIM-120-C-8 AMRAAM Guidance Sections; 63 AIM-9X Sidewinder Block II tactical missiles; six AIM-9X Block II tactical missile Guidance Units; 12 Multifunctional Information Distribution Systems – Low Volume Terminal (MIDS LVT) Block Upgrade 2; and 12 MIDS LVT Cryptographic Modules (LCM). The total estimated cost is $3 billion.
