According to the company, the LMXT complements the US Air Force’s tanker capabilities by providing the most advanced aerial refuelling aircraft capable of meeting both immediate and long-term mission requirements in the United States.
The tanker is based on the Airbus A330 Multi Role Tanker Transport’s combat-proven design (MRTT). Lockheed Martin, as prime contractor, is responsible for implementing US Air Force-specific requirements within the LMXT.
