MBDA Calls for more Taurus Orders

MBDA is calling on the German federal government to make faster award decisions. Suppliers would otherwise stop Taurus production. MBDA is urging for expedited federal decisions regarding industry orders. The collaboration between Airbus, BAE Systems, and Leonardo yields various products, including the Taurus cruise missile and the Patriot anti-aircraft missile. Thomas Gottschild, the chief executive officer of the German subsidiary, stated to "Augsburger Allgemeine" that the production of Taurus missiles will cease due to the restriction on the defence sector from producing inventory without specific orders. "The interruption of production, such as with the Taurus, poses a challenge for our industry," stated the manager. "In these instances, our suppliers, frequently comprised of small and medium-sized enterprises, have ceased production." Suppliers would need to establish their presence and obtain raw materials in response to new demands. Due of the substantial worldwide demand, there are limitations, specifically regarding volatile raw materials. "The arms industry requires a consistent level of production," Gottschild declared. "Maintaining supply chains, ensuring state-of-the-art test equipment, and upholding employee competence are sufficient to justify the effort." As an illustrative instance, he highlighted an order placed by multiple states for a maximum of 1,000 Patriot missiles. These missiles will be produced in Schrobenhausen by MBDA's American collaborator, Raytheon. "The initial shipment of Patriot missiles will be delivered within a timeframe of three years."
