Navantia offers S80 Isaac Peral class submarines to the Philippines

Navantia offers the supply of two S80 Isaac Peral class diesel-electric with Air-Independent Propulsion (AIP) submarines to the Philippine Navy. The submarine was designed and built at the Navantia shipyard in Cartagena, Spain, and is considered a long-range conventional attack submarine.

In addition to torpedoes, the S80 Isaac Peral can be armed with US-made Harpoon anti-ship missiles as a strike weapon.

Navantia also proposed building a new submarine base with infrastructure, training facilities and logistical support in Ormoc, Leyte Province.

The Spanish Government will also provide financing, which offers a sovereign guarantee on the loan of 100 per cent of the total contract cost. Payment is only after the first submarine is delivered to the Philippine Navy.

Navantia competes with France's Naval Group, which offers Scorpene class submarines.
