Speaking at CNN Turk TV, Kotil said that Şimşek is integrated into UAV and used as a kamikaze drone. Kotil said, “Target drone is a loitering munition at the same time. Its warhead has a five kg explosive. It can fly more than 100 km. We can produce 100 drones per year.”
Şimşek is designed as a target drone for air defence purpose. Şimşek is usually launched from the ground station, but it was seen under the wings of ANKA UAV. It was speculated that Şimşek was transformed into loitering munition. The claim was confirmed. Anka may carry two Şimşek.
