New OPVs for Pakistan Navy

New OPVs for Pakistan Navy

Pakistan continues to invest in the navy. The country, which is having issues with India in the region, is acquiring two new offshore patrol vessels from Damen. Steel cutting and keel laying ceremony for two new vessels was held at Damen Shipyard Galati Facilities in Romania. Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Amjad Khan Niazi also attended the event. Pakistan Navy currently operates PNS Yarmook (271) and PNS Tabook (272) OPVs from Damen.

The tension between Pakistan and India in the region is getting tighter. Thus, Pakistan Navy wants to protect Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ) and fishery areas and keep strategic trade routes open. Pakistan wants to strengthen its maritime capability with new vessels according to the Indian naval investment steps. Islamabad would like to establish a strong enough force to counter any aggression in the Indian Ocean and critical ports, which are vital for mercantile trade. OPVs provide a suitable solution to Pakistani requirements due to their adaptivity, electronic suite and EW capability, weapon infrastructure, defence systems and long deployment periods.New OPVs for Pakistan Navy
