Poland to Lease General Atomics’ MQ-9A UAVs

The country’s Armaments Agency announced on October 20th from its official website that an agreement was concluded between the Polish State Treasury - the Armaments Agency and General Atomics - Aeronautical Systems Inc., for the lease of the MQ-9A REAPER unmanned reconnaissance system. According to the Agency, the agreement aims to improve the Polish Armed Forces’ ability to obtain reconnaissance data by leasing an unmanned reconnaissance system that includes several MQ-9A REAPER unmanned aerial platforms. The contract is worth USD 70.6 million net, and the service will be provided until the Polish Armed Forces acquire and commission the MQ-9B REAPER unmanned reconnaissance and strike system. The MQ-9A unmanned aerial systems will be used for image recognition (IMINT) and radio-electronic reconnaissance (SIGINT). The detailed specification of the system is classified information.
