Jeremy Quin, minister for defence procurement, announced the new contract for industry partners BAE Systems and Leonardo at the Royal International Air Tattoo on 15 July.RAF Typhoons to be equipped with a new radar with £2.35bn upgradeThe ECRS Mk 2 radar can suppress enemy air defences using high-powered jamming and engage targets beyond the reach of threats. The radar will be delivered into service towards the end of the decade. Currently, the radar will be installed on 40 RAF Eurofighter Typhoon Tranche 3 aircraft. It is possible that Tranche 2 jets could follow in 2025.The P4E modifications will be applied to all 67 RAF Tranche 2 and Tranche 3 Eurofighters. The Tranche 1 platforms that will be retired by 2025 are excluded from consideration.
