Russia Plans Intercepting UAVs with Helicopter

The new unit uses Mi-28N attack helicopters to be deployed in several areas to hunt down Ukrainian drones. The helicopters are trained to intercept UAVs day or night in all types of weather.

Previously, there had been attempts to use Mi-28N helicopters as drone interceptors.

Specifically, Ukraine's Defence Intelligence Directorate (GUR) reported almost a week ago that two Russian Mi-28Ns were pursuing one of the Ukrainian drones. The intercept occurred near Cape Tarkhankut in Crimea, temporarily occupied by Russian troops.

The Mi-28N has a 30 mm Shipunov 2A42 cannon under its chin and carries anti-tank and short-range air-to-air missiles on its small wings.
