Professor İsmail DEMİR, President of the Defence Industries Agency (DIA), announced that the production of the STM500 has started. “We are starting the production activity of the STM500 submarine, designed by Turkish engineers with national resources, with the test production of the pressure hull,” Demir said.
The pressure hull is the structure that provides a dry, pressure-resistant habitat to the occupants of an underwater submersible. Most submarines have two structures. The inner hull of a submarine is called the pressure hull as it maintains structural integrity with the difference between outside and inside pressure at depth. The STM500 Submarine is a shallow water diesel-electric attack submarine designed as a concept by STM.
