The State Department approved a possible Foreign Military Sale (FMS) to Sweden of Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) for an estimated cost of $605 million. The Defence Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) delivered the required certification notifying Congress of this possible sale today.
Sweden has requested to buy up to 250 AIM-120C-8 Advanced Medium Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM); and up to six AMRAAM C-8 Guidance Sections. The estimated total cost is $605 million. The principal contractor will be Raytheon.
A GPS satellite navigation system receiver and a two-way data transmission line complement the AIM-120C-8 (Formerly AIM-120D) guidance system. Compared to its previous version, the AIM-120C-7, it has a 50 per cent increased range, reaching about 160 km.
