TEI Unveiled its Turbo Diesel PD-222 Engine

Eskişehir based TUSAŞ Engine Inc (TEI) unveiled the PD-222 engine for unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) at the Teknofest Istanbul. The engine is a version of the PD-170 that provides more power at takeoff. Turkey's new engine weighs five kilogrammes less than the previous PD-170 engine. The engine has a turbo diesel base.

TEI President and CEO Professor Mahmut Akşit told TurDef that the PD-170 engine had undergone modifications to provide more power during takeoff. In this way, it can be applied to Baykar"s TB3 unmanned aerial vehicle. He also stated that three PD-170 engines have already been dispatched to Baykar for the same application. The PD-170 engines will be utilised during the development phase. In the meantime, works on the PD-222- will be completed as soon as possible. The connection points and dimensions of the PD-170 and PD-222 are the same. For this reason, the change of engine will not cause a problem. The engine will also power Baykar"s Akıncı light version with twin version. It can be used at ANKA and Aksungur UAVs too.
