The First Ukrainian Challenger 2 Crews Arrive in the UK
The United Kingdom (UK) and Ukraine are moving forward on Challenger 2 main battle tank supply. Ukrainian soldiers are going to be trained with Challenger 2 main battle tanks. Repair and maintenance personnel will also execute efforts on tanks. Prime minister of the UK, Rishi Sunak, announced the Challenger 2 decision in mid-January. According to official information, the British Army will also send armoured recovery and repairs alongside tanks. A total of 14 tanks are expected in the first phase.It will be the first time that Ukraine will meet the Western main battle tank. Ukrainian armoured elements are mostly equipped with T-64 and a smaller number of T-72, T-80 and other Soviet tanks in addition to the captured Russian vehicles. Challenger 2 offers high ballistic protection to its crew thanks to a specifically designed composite armour structure. Although mobility is relatively low, the survivability rate of tanks in real combat conditions is high, according to former experiences.
