Directorate of Communications announced on social media accounts that “The Protocol on Sweden’s NATO Accession was signed by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on October 23, 2023, and referred to the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye.
President Erdoğan spoke with NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg on October 21. In the announcement regarding that meeting, it was stated that the call addressed the latest situation in Gaza, the uninterrupted delivery of humanitarian aid to innocent civilians and steps that should be taken to prevent human rights violations.
While Turkiye opposed Sweden’s participation in NATO, Erdoğan stated that he wanted to wait and see the practical results of Sweden’s legal changes in the fight against terrorism.
