Boeing offers F-15EX to Saudi Arabia, competing with Rafale from France and Typhoon from the Eurofighter consortium.
Boeing offered Saudi Arabia the newest F-15EX Eagle II fighter jet. This aircraft will compete in the tender with the Rafale from France and the Typhoon from the Eurofighter consortium.
For Boeing, Saudi Arabia is a long-standing customer that operates the F-15 Eagle and F-15SA Strike Eagle fighter jets. So, by operating the F-15EX, the Royal Saudi Air Force (RSAF) will gain continuity. Before this, Boeing had also offered the F-15EX to Israel and Poland. Meanwhile, Indonesia, the first to sign the purchase of the F-15EX, has not yet progressed the purchase to the effective contract stage.
“The F-15EX is the right choice to add critical capabilities to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) as the country seeks to accelerate the modernization of its armed forces,” a Boeing spokesperson told The War Zone this week.
Boeing emphasized that the F-15EX shares 95 per cent of its characteristics with the previous RSAF F-15, including infrastructure, training equipment, trainers, and pilot skills.
The RSAF has received 84 new-build F-15SAs. This was the most advanced variant of the Strike Eagle family available until the advent of the Qatari F-15QA. It was from the F-15QA that the US Air Force F-15EX was developed.
