The Turkish Armed Forces continue the Kış-2023 (Winter 2023) exercise in the eastern city of the country, Kars. According to the Turkish Ministry of National Defence, this activity is recorded as the highest participation in the Republic of Turkiye inhistory.
Turkish mechanised and air units coordinated exercise. Live fire shots were also carried out during the exercise. Units built snow shelters on their own and stayed in the field during harsh cold weather conditions.
Exercise is commanded by the 9th Corps of Turkish Land Forces and carried out under the 14th Mechanised Infantry Regiment. Aside Turkish Army, the Turkish Navy, Air Force and Special Forces elements also took place in the field.
Total of 2113 personnel, 189 of them from foreign countries, deployed from different branches for the activities. Azerbaijan, Kosovo, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Uzbekistan and Italy attended the field exercises. Kuwait, Qatar, Kyrgyzstan, Germany, Bahrain, Ethiopia, Malaysia, Mongolia and the United Kingdom sent visitors for observation purposes.
Some systems fielded for the first time in the Kış-2023 Exercise, such as Kargu loitering munition, Cirit missile, KN-12 multi-calibre sniper rifle, Komodo and Proton UGV and tunnel detection device, are used in the winter conditions.
