Lockheed Martin Supplies EW System for Moroccan F-16s

Lockheed Martin has been awarded a contract to provide a Viper Shield electronic warfare system for Morocco’s F-16 fighter jets. DSCA stated in a release that the contract is worth $520 million and covers 25 F-16 Block 70/72 fighter jets.

Other Block 70/72 customers will also receive the electronic warfare system, which is being manufactured by L3Harris. With its advanced capabilities, the Viper Shield system can be integrated with the F-16’s weapon systems, including the fighter jet’s radar. This technological superiority enables Viper Shield to have a broad application in F-16 Block 70/72 aircraft configurations, providing self-defence and offensive jamming against enemy radars.

Morocco is among the customers of F-16 Block 70 or Viper fighter jets, the most recent version of the line. Block 70 features new systems like the APG-83 AESA radar, integration of newer munitions, and avionics. Turkiye is also set to receive the Block 70 upgrade for its F-16 fleet as both new planes and upgrade kits alongside the indigenous Özgür modernisation.
