Faced with mounting worries about mystery objects in the sky, particularly above military sites and training ranges, the Pentagon has formed a new unit to investigate where they come from and what hazards they could represent.
Today, Deputy Secretary of Defence Kathleen Hicks, in collaboration with the Director of National Intelligence, directed the Under Secretary of Defence for Intelligence and Security to establish the Airborne Object Identification and Management Synchronization Group (AOIMSG) within the Office of the USD(I&S) as the successor to the United States Navy"s Unidentified Aerial Phenomena Task Force.
The Department will release implementation guidelines in the coming weeks, including further information about the AOIMSG Director, organisational structure, authority, and resourcing.
The AOIMSG will coordinate efforts throughout the Department and the federal government to detect, identify, and attribute objects of interest in Special Use Airspace (SUA) and analyse and mitigate any related concerns to flight safety national security. The Deputy Secretary also authorised the USD (I&S) to head an Airborne Object Identification and Management Executive Council (AOIMEXEC) comprising DoD and Intelligence Community membership to provide a place for U.S. government interagency representation to provide supervision of the AOIMSG.
In evaluating those observations of aeroplanes or other items flying at strange speeds or trajectories, investigators uncovered no extra-terrestrial ties, but they also came to no conclusions. Instead, the study emphasised the need for greater data collecting on what Democrats and Republicans alike are increasingly viewing as a national security threat. With the exception of one observation, there was insufficient information for investigators to even generally identify the nature of the encounter.
According to the investigation, there were 18 incidents when witnesses noticed "strange" patterns of movement or flying characteristics. However, additional research was required to evaluate whether such encounters reflected "breakthrough" technology.
The DoD will release "implementing advice" in the coming weeks, detailing who will head the AOIMSG, as well as its organisational structure, authority, and resources.
Former US President Barack Obama was forthright in his opinion of the films of mysterious aerial phenomena that have gained widespread attention in the U.S. Obama said, "What is true, and I"m actually being serious here, is that there is footage and records of objects in the skies that we don"t know exactly what they are.”
The U.S. intelligence has also admitted that there are some unidentified flying objects.
