Peru Signs a $463 million contract with Korean HHI

Peru awards a $463 million contract to Hyundai Heavy Industries (HHI) shipyards to co-produce four ships with SIMA Peru shipyards for the country's Navy. The Peruvian Navy plans to later order an additional five frigates, four open sea patrol boats and two landing craft, with the Republic of Korea company emerging as a strategic partner for the next 15 years. he Peruvian Navy requests a 3,400-ton displacement frigate, a 2,200-ton offshore patrol vessel, and two 1,500-ton landing craft. The new frigate will be based on HD HHI's HDF-3200 model, which is 127 meters long, 14.9 meters wide, has a top speed of 26.5 knots and a range of 6,000 nautical miles. It will have anti-ship missiles, vertical launchers, and AESA radar. The offshore patrol vessel will be based on HD HHI's HDP-2200 OPV model, which has a length of 95 meters, a beam of 14.3 meters, a maximum speed of 20 knots and a range of 6,000 nautical miles. The landing craft is based on the HDL-1500 LCU, which has a length of 58 meters, a width of 13.2 meters, a maximum speed of 10 knots and a range of 1,500 nautical miles. The ship can carry more than seven armoured vehicles or over twenty containers. The construction will be carried out in collaboration with the state-owned Peruvian company SIMA, with their delivery time estimated at five years from today (2029). HD HHI will be responsible for the design, the "package" of equipment and material, and the technical support of the ships, while SIMA will undertake shipbuilding.
