Russia Launches the Soyuz 2, aiming Moon’s South Pole

The Soyuz-2 FREGAT rocket was launched from the Vostochny Cosmodrome on Friday. Reportedly, the rocket has successfully entered Earth Orbit and will soon enter the Moon Orbit before finally landing at the South Pole of the Moon.

Before the launch, residents of the Russian village were temporarily evacuated early Friday as a precaution in case the Luna 25 rocket’s stages could crash, according to Reuters.

Luna 25, also called Luna-Glob-Lander, was a mission to study the composition of the Moon’s polar soils and the plasma and dust contained in the Moon’s very thin exosphere over one year.
