According to the Czech Defence Ministry, the Czech government decided to donate 4,000 artillery ammunition rounds to Ukraine as the nation prepared for a possible Russian military invasion.
The Czech Republic"s new centre-right Cabinet has said unequivocally that it would back Ukraine in the stalemate.
"We have a wide range of choices, from political and diplomatic support to acts like ammunition donations, which I consider a significant solidarity expression," Defence Minister Jana Cernochova said.
According to the ministry, Ukraine sought assistance to help with its defence preparations as Russia concentrates military assets along Ukraine"s borders.
It was stated that the ammo was for 152mm artillery.
If Russia invades Ukraine, the Czech government has indicated its support for tough Western sanctions.
Russia denies plotting an assault but warns that it may resort to unspecified military action if its security demands are not satisfied.
Czech Army has Samohybná Kanónová Húfnica vzor 77 (ShKH-77) wheeled 152 mm self-propelled artillery gun in the inventory, which was introduced in the 1970s. Currently, the Czech Army uses three main shell types: 152-EOF with a maximum range of 18 km, 152-EOFd, with a maximum range of 20 km and 152-EPrSv, used for direct-fire at armoured targets. The type of ammunition is not specified.
