Turkiye develops defence relations with Romania

The Turkish Defence Procurement body SSB and leading companies participated in the highly significant Black Sea Defence and Aerospace Conference BSDA in Romania, a platform crucial for strengthening defence relations. Secretariat of Defence Industries Secretary Professor Haluk Görgün and Ambassador of Türkiye to Romania, Özgür Kıvanç Altan, visited the BSDA 2024 Homeland Security, Safety and Protection Conference. Professor Görgün thanked Romanian Premier Ion-Marcel Ciolacu for his hospitality, Turkiye’s Ambassador Altan and Turkish companies for their contribution. Görgün and Altan also met Romanian Minister of National Defence Angel Tîlvăr, Head of the Romanian General Directorate of Armament, Lieutenant General Teodor Incicaş, Air Force Commander Major General Leonard-Gabriel Baraboi. He held bilateral meetings with Croatian National Armament Director Ivica Grebenar and Hungarian MoD Deputy State Secretary for Defence Industry and Procurement David Klacsmann. The meetings discussed existing and potential defence industry collaborations between countries. Görgün and Ambassador Altan met with Romanian Prime Minister Ion-Marcel Ciolacu and his delegation at the Presidential Complex on May 21 for the first meeting of the High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Ankara. Aselsan, Karel, Otokar, Nurol Makina and Roketsan attended the BSDA expo in Bucharest. Turkiye and Romania are the signatories of tripartite cooperation agreement against mines in the Black Sea along with Bulgaria. Otokar played a significant role in Romania’s 4x4 armoured vehicle acquisition programme. The company, being the sole candidate after the withdrawal of others, has submitted an offer that is currently under discussion, as stated in their recent announcement at the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP).
