ArianeGroup and Thales Test FLP-T-150 Artillery Rocket

ArianeGroup and Thales Test FLP-T-150 Artillery Rocket TurDef

French ArianeGroup and Thales [EURONEXT-HO]  test-fired the FLP-T-150 extended range medium artillery rocket, which is being developed for France’s X-Fire indigenous MLRS.

One of the contending artillery rockets for France’s future medium-range fire support capabilities, FLP-T-150, developed by ArianeGroup and Thales, completed its launch test as a validation of the design.

FLP-T-150, as an artillery rocket designed from the ground up, has a range goal of 150+ km, twice that of France’s in-use GMLRS 227 mm rockets acquired from the US.

Thales is responsible for the launcher and interface of FLP-T-150, while ArianeGroup is responsible for the guidance system and propulsion.

FLP-T-150 will be available to France’s indigenously developed X-Fire MLRS system, akin to the HIMARS MLRS developed by the US, with high mobility and fast reloading characteristics. X-Fire will be tested by the end of May 2026.

Thundart’s Test from MBDA and Safran

FLP-T-150’s competitor, Thundart, jointly developed by MBDA and Safran, was also tested not long ago, towards the end of April 2026. Similar to FLP-T-150, Thundart is being designed for a range of 150+ km.

Guidance for Thundart consists of a package derived from that of the AASM Hammer guided bomb for Mk80 general-purpose bombs, which potentially enables the fitting of seekers.
