Armenia agreed with Iran for the supply of weapons systems worth $500 million, according to the Iran International, which cites Iranian government sources. The contract concerns the supply of mobile ammunition and anti-aircraft systems. According to the publication, Armenia will acquire Shahed-136, Shahed-129, Shahed-197, Mohajer cruise missiles, and Khordad, Majid and Arman anti-aircraft systems.
After the recent conflict and defeat in Karabakh, Armenia has proceeded with the implementation of armament programs to strengthen its Armed Forces. In comparison, defence spending in 2024 is 81 per cent higher than defence spending in 2020. In addition to the contract to purchase the specific weapons systems, Armenia and Iran also agreed to cooperate in the field of intelligence. Armenia has also signed several procurement agreements with India and France.
